Entries for 2023 A4Art Prize have now closed.

Back for a second year, the 2023 A4Art Prize encourages creativity in young artists and staff from across St Agnes’ Parish Schools.  All finalists artworks are exhibited in a touring exhibition, so that future artists get to experience the joy of exhibiting and see an audience appreciate their work. Artists also go in the running to receive encouragement awards including vouchers and cash prizes.

What can you create with one piece of paper?

Create an artwork by using just ONE A4 size piece of paper. Draw, paint, scribble, fold, sculpt, cut, mould, shred, or even write on your paper – use it in any way you, the artist, envisions!

Receipt of Entries

Every entry must include a brief Artist Statement of up to 75 words on their application. The Artist Statement will be displayed with the Artwork in the Online Gallery and, if chosen in the touring exhibition.

  2. Create your artwork.
  3. Complete online entry form and print off (this is also emailed to you).
  4. Write your Full Name, School and Artist Registration Number clearly on back of your artwork (or bottom location for 3D art). This is the unique number given to you on your entry form
  5. Hand your printed online entry form and your artwork to your school, details shown on your entry form.
  6. Artworks can only be delivered to your school location listed on your printed entry form.
  7. DEADLINE – Friday 24th March 3pm

Artwork

The artwork must have originated from one A4 piece of paper. The piece of paper must contain the majority of the artwork. For example, the paper cannot be used as the base for another piece of art. The artwork must be original and be created by the entering artist.

Judging

Artworks will be judged independently by three local judges including a Local Artist, Creative Arts Teacher & Gallery Manager

Student Categories

The competition is open to all young artists from K -12 St Agnes’ Parish Schools. Entries for these categories are set at one per student and any student may enter. There are Fifteen student categories

  • Supported Learning – Primary (the supported learning category is for students with moderate to high learning and support needs including students with intellectual and physical disability)

  • Supported Learning – Secondary (the supported learning category is for students with moderate to high learning and support needs including students with intellectual and physical disability)

 

Staff Open Category

The Competition is also open to any staff member of a St Agnes’ Parish School. Entries for this category are set at one per staff member.

FINALISTS ANNOUNCED – Friday 28th April

Entries in each category will be shortlisted and ten finalists will be chosen by our expert judges and will be announced on Friday 28th April. 

All shortlisted entires as well as finalists will be uploaded to artsnest.com.au for online exhibition on Monday 1st May.  The public can vote online for the ‘COMMUNITY CHOICE’ Award.

The Packing Room Prize Finalists will be announced by Friday 12th May. 

EXHIBITION TOUR BEGINS – Monday 15th May

All chosen finalists (both chosen by our Judges and the Packing Room Finalists) will have their works showcased in an exhibition that will tour every St Agnes’ Parish school. From here, the entire St Agnes’ Parish Education community will have the opportunity to vote for the ‘PEOPLE’S CHOICE’ award.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT AWARDS NIGHT – Thursday 22nd June

From the ten finalists in each category, three entries will be chosen by our expert judges and awarded with 1st Prize and two highly commended prizes. Finalists also go in the running for the People’s Choice Award, the Community Choice Award and the Packing Room Prize to be announced on 22nd June at the Finalists Award Night.

Selected short-listed and finalist artworks will also have the opportunity to be showcased throughout the region during and after the duration of the competition.

Conditions of Entry

Entry
  1. Entry to A4Art Awards is free.
  2. Only primary and secondary schools students currently enrolled and staff currently employed at a St Agnes Parish Education organisation are eligible to enter.
  3. Entries close: Friday 24th March, 3pm
  4. Each entrant may submit one entry only and be created by only one person.
Artwork
  1. Artwork submitted to A4Art must be delivered to the student or staff member’s school location (this will be listed on your printed Entry Form) by Friday 24th March, 3pm. Late deliveries can not be accepted.
  2. Artworks submitted to A4Art must be made within the last 5 weeks by students or staff.
    Submitted artwork must have the artist’s full name, school and registration number displayed clearly on some part of the artwork (eg. for 2D artwork on the back or on the base of a 3D artwork).  
  3. Every artwork must be submitted with a printed copy of their relevant entry form.  
  4. Only correctly submitted artworks are eligible for exhibition and prizes.
Judging
  1. All forms of visual art (e.g. painting, etching, drawing, sculpture, etc.) are eligible to win a prize.
  2. All artwork will be viewed by the judge.
  3. The judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entertained.
Other
  1. All works must be deemed appropriate to be exhibited at a family exhibition. The organiser retains the right to rule any works deemed inappropriate and therefore will not be eligible.
  2. Entry of artwork to the competition constitutes the artist’s permission for competition organisers to reproduce the work without fee for the purposes of promotion, in print and electronic media.
  3. No responsibility will be taken by competition organisers for damage or breakages of artwork. Every care will be taken by competition organisers to minimise risk of damage.
  4. Artworks will be mounted on board for exhibition or framed. No responsibility will be taken for damage that may occur to artwork.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

The Prize is open to artists between Kindergarten to year 12, including all school staff. 

Yes, there is no expectation for Artworks to be framed. All finalists Artworks to be exhibited will be framed by the Creative Arts Nest where possible.

Yes, as long as they are together and labelled with your name,  your entry ID along with the number of artworks eg. 1 of 2, 2 of 2.

Once you have completed the online entry form on artsnest.com.au, you will have the option to print the form immediately or you can find your form attached to the confirmation email.

No. Please keep the copy of your entry form separate to your artwork. However, all submitted artworks must have your name and entry ID clearly written on back of artwork (or bottom location for 3D art)

Do not submit another (corrected) entry. Please contact the Arts Nest Team, connect@artsnest.com.au prior to artwork closing day (24th March) and staff will make the necessary changes to the online entry form.  

Selected entries will appear on artsnest.com.au website after 5pm on Friday 28th April 2023.  

Prize winners will be announced on the evening of Thursday 22nd June. Details regarding this announcement/presentation will be released closer to the date. Prize winners will be also listed on the artsnest.com.au website.  

Artworks not selected for exhibition will be returned to schools for collection Monday 15th May. Artworks which are selected for exhibition will be returned to schools for collection after the Awards Night. Winners of the Awards Night will be shown at the Wauchope Arts Hub from Monday 17th July – 31st July. These artworks will be returned after this community exhibition. Artworks not collected from schools will be disposed of.
