Watercolour classes with Stuart Doherty

Experiment and learn the amazing art of watercolour painting. This 1.5 hour class will cover the essential techniques of watercolour including wet-in-wet & wet-on-dry, while we take our inspiration from nature and create an expressive and colourful group Spring Flower Show Exhibition.

This creative workshop will also incorporate mixed media elements and collage that can help take your self expression to the next level.Learn to paint Watercolour or expand on your existing painting skills in this course with award winning watercolour artist Stu Doherty. 

Suitable for all skill levels from total beginners, all materials are provided.

Venue: MacKillop College, Senior Campus, Lochinvar Place, Port Macquarie

Location: TBC

When: Term 4, Week 1. This is an 8 week Course, each Wednesday starting 11th October until Wednesday 29th November, 2023.

School Holidays: Workshops will not run during the school holidays.

Time: 3.45pm - 5.15pm

Cost: $160 for 8 weeks ($20 p/w)

Bio: Stu Doherty is a watercolour artist & designer living and painting on Birpai land on the Mid North Coast NSW. After graduating from the National Art School: East Sydney Tech Design Studio he went on to a successful fashion design career spanning decades that includes teaching Illustration and Design at the prestigious Whitehouse Institute of Design and also designing menswear for some of Australia’s top fashion labels and department stores, Stu now exhibits and teaches watercolour painting at Wauchope Creative Hub and paints his meditative, modern watercolour works in his studio at Long Flat, just outside Wauchope.

In 2022 Stu won first place in the prestigious Bonny Hills Art Prize and took out two first places for painting at the 2022 Wauchope RS, he was also selected for inclusion in the Northern Exposure Exhibition at the Glasshouse gallery Port Macquarie. Currently Stu is working on a series of large scale watercolours which combine Australian native flora in graphic hypnotic patterns playing with colour and harmony. After being showcased at the Bent Art group show at Rex Livingstone gallery in Katoomba his works are now a permanent addition to this popular Katoomba gallery.

All Wednesday Nest Workshops are available for all students from Mackillop College, St Joseph’s Regional College and Newman Senior Technical College - regardless of what school they attend.  ANY Student can attend ANY workshop at ANY location, regardless of what school they attend.

Parents are to organise transport for students from school, to venue and pick up.
